雑誌の取材と言っても「今年の流行色は？」とか「誰にも教えたくない隠れ家的なお店は？」とか「スリムな体を保つ秘訣は？」とか、そーゆーカッコい い取材ではありません。
「英語の効果的学習法を教えてください」
... ... 地道。
まぁ僕に「流行色」を聞かれても困るんだけどね。ちなみに

早朝の新幹線。通路を挟んで右斜め後ろに座っていた重役風オヤジが、急に 尻をもちあげた。
ぷ。
公衆の面前で「ぷ」はないだろ。「ぷ」は。
「おやっさん困るよ、朝っぱらから」 と言ったら、
「ごめんごめん」 と言いながら、缶 ジュースをくれた。さすが重役。
午後の紅茶。それが今日のクランケ。

OTT (over the top)。Come on! It's just a drink! という感じ。たかだ か紅茶にくさすぎるだろ、その言いぐさは...... というのがおおよその反応ではないでしょうか。
前回の Quantum leap のお話を覚えていますか？そう、健康ドリンクに beautiful life。大きすぎる飛躍は読むに耐えないという話でした。しかし、 今回のクランケは「紅茶」。こいつに限っては、ちょっと別物なのです。
紅茶は、カルピスやコカコーラ、ガルシニアドリンクとはまったくちがっ た、独自のステータスをもつ飲み物です。ちょっとクリスの話を聞いてみま しょう。
Tea. It's just a drink. Or is it? Well, not in Britain. Since tea was first introduced into Britain in 1650, it has developed into the national drink and Britain has become the world's biggest tea drinker. Coffee is now gaining popularity, but in most British homes the first thing a visitor would be offered is a 'nice cuppa'. An old song shows this popularity:

There's a lot to be said For a nice cup of tea. You see, in most homes the kettle never stops boiling! And when some companies tried to stop the traditional 'tea-break', all hell broke loose and they had to give in to the workers.
But beyond this, tea has become a symbol of hospitality, friendship and, yes, as the Kirin ad says, love. For many people tea is like the panacea for all problems. Someone comes home injured - put the kettle on. Someone has just failed an important test - put the kettle on. Someone is really down and depressed - put the kettle on.
There is nothing a nice cup of tea can't help heal. Even when a family member dies. Witness this passage from British writer Claire Calman's novel, I Like It Like That:
After the funeral people come back home and Georgia helps make cups of tea. Aunty Audrey puts sugar in Daddy's tea, "To keep your strength up. It's good for shock."
Of course, tea doesn't really have such magical medicinal powers, but its warmth gives the suffering person the feeling that someone cares for them, someone is there for them - and that always seems to work!
ロンドンは東京同様コスモポリタンな街ですから、世界中の飲み物があり コーヒー・カプチーノ・カフェラテ... など、コーヒーをより好む人もたくさ んいます。ですがロンドンを一歩離れれば、依然として紅茶は強烈な支配力を もっています。特に年輩の方は「何があってもとりあえず紅茶」なんですね。
そうした紅茶のもつ特別な力、影響力、紅茶に対する「信仰(Claire Calman の引用からもわかるでしょう？）」を考えると、このクランケの宣伝文句もあ まりショッキングには響かないのです。Quantum Leap として訂正を加えなく てはならないほど、「くさい」ものではないのです。 「よくできました」と言っておきましょう。

は、ちょっと「かゆい」ですが。

本文中の turn... into について説明しておきましょう。into は「変化」 の前置詞。「〜の中へ」という基本イメージが、「別の状態へ」という意味を 生み出しているのです。
The beast changed into a handsome young prince.

（ジョンはいい青年になったね）
turn into は「変わる（変える）」ですが、turn の語感に注意しましょう。 テーブルには表が白、裏が赤の紙が置いてあります。その紙をクルッとひっく り返して赤にする、そんな語感です。

前置詞は単純なイメージとその拡張を知ることによって征服できる、それが コンセプト。「ネイティブスピーカーの...」はすでにこの分野のベンチマー クとなっています。発売以来、多くの類書が出ています。最近では「基本イ メージ」など用語レベルで「見習っている」本も出ているようですね。まぁどれもリーグはちがいますが。

毎日毎日やらなきゃいけないことが山盛り。メルマガに本にインタビューに ホームページ、そして日々の糧、先生稼業。でもまぁ、それが40代の宿命で しょうね。
新幹線の放屁オヤジに僕は怒っていません。朝７時の新幹線に乗らなくては 終わらないほど過酷な労働をしているのでしょうから。疲れてついトイレに行 きたくなくなる時もあるのでしょうから。お疲れさん。
